5 September 08 - Atlantic Balloon Fiesta
- Thanks to Tropical Storm Hanna some of
the Atlantic Balloon Fiesta schedule activities were cancelled. However,
the Balloons and Powered Paraglider Pilots were able to fly Friday morning and
evening.
However, at least we did get an
opportunity to show our sport up close to include a chance to get all the local
Maritime pilots together to celebrate our great sport. Fun had by all!!
I would like to acknowledge and pay
special thanks to the following pilots that had attended from outside the
Maritime area:
Viktor & Patricie(Walkerjet/ Fly
Engines- Owners/Manufacturer) - Came from Czech Republic;
Raynald & Lise Tremblay
(Manufacturer Nomad paramotors) - Levis Quebec; and
Dan & Natalie Cornwell ( Outstanding
food/Welding/repairs as usual) - Oshawa Ontario.
I would also like to pay thanks to
Glen Boyd for his help and support on site commentating and all attending pilots
that helped out with making this year's event successful, even with the in
climate weather.
Here are a few pic's of the event.

5 September 08 - Happy Birthday Bob!
- Bob flew this morning on his Birthday from the PPGNB Field of Dreams.
Freedom 55 and still going
strong!

4 September 08 - Balloons have arrived!
- This weekend, Sussex NB is hosting the 23th Atlantic Balloon Fiesta starting
5 -7 September. You can check out the website at http://atlanticballoonfiesta.ca.
We have approximately a dozen Powered Paragliders participating in the
event flying around with the Hot Air Balloons. This morning four
Balloons flew down the Apohaqui Valley. I was quite surprised to see them
up as the air was not very good and the winds were gusting quite high. I guess
these Balloonist really wanted to fly!! Don't forget to bring your camera.

21 August 08 - Bob & Dave XC Fredericton Area -
Bob shot a great photo of the St John River while Dave flying low along it's
banks. It would be good for Santa to give Dave an Agama for Christmas!! Great
photo Bob.

21 August 08 - Two Potential Students
- This evening Bernard and Laurent had arrived at PPGNB to
get their intro to PPG. I had completed a foot launch demo followed by Xcitor
Tandem rides. Needless to say it was very exciting for them as the smiles
were permanently imprinted on their faces after the flights.

20 August 08 - Jim and I flew this evening
- Jim showed up later on this evening to get a little flying in. The
winds had come down nicely and it was a great evening to get in a flight.
I flew my Airwolf this evening for the first time in over a month, I've been
flying the Nomad getting used to a high attachment point paramotor.
Unfortunately, I had just applied for my registration for my Nomad just recently
and it will not be registered in time for the Balloon Fiesta. Therefore, I'll
fly the registered Airwolf to get practice in for the Low level Demo.
Jim concentrating before a touch & go
What does Jim have in this picture that he does not on the left ?

You guessed it!!
A Wind sock!!

16 August 08 - Potential Student takes Tandem Flight
- Robert has been watching my website for a year and this morning he had
the opportunity to take a tandem flight over Sussex, NB. Unfortunately his
son Daniel was not able to take a flight due to the low ceiling . However,
Daniel had a chance to ride in the training field with Frank.

15 August 08 - Ken and Tracy continues training
- Tracy flew most of the day to get his qualification flights. Ken also
flew several flights this morning and this evening. Ken and Tracy requires
a few more flights to get their qualification for their course.

Tracy
Ken - "The Flying Squirrel"
14 August 08 - Ken continues and Tracy
starts training - Ken flew a few
successful flights this morning and Tracy started training later on in the
morning. Tracy has already taken training several years earlier and had flown
many flights in the past, but has allowed his course qualification to lapse. He
arrived at PPGNB to get re- qualification flights to get his PPG license. Ken is
doing very well and is showing improvement after each flight. These two
pilots have the same type of paramotor, they are the Adventure F2& F3 from
France with the older type solo 210 engine. These are older type
paramotors and are rarely seen in this part of the country, however they were
one of the best around at their time in the 80's & 90's. They're still
flying and keeping these pilots happy!!
13 August 08 - Ken flew his first PPG flights
this morning - Ken had flown his first
PPG flight this morning. Ken had completed a few more successful flights before
it started to rain. Unfortunately the winds picked up this evening so Ken
will have to wait till tomorrow morning before continuing on with his training.

12 August 08 - Training continues
- This morning was forcasted for rain so I was very
pleased to see that it was dry out this morning with calm winds. I had
completed some foot launch demo flights yesterday evening, but I also wanted to
get Ken a Tandem flight on the Xcitor. The Tandem flight gave Ken a
chance to see the flying site from the air and to go over the location of his
waypoints as well as the altitude he'll be flying at during his first flghts.
We continued more training today and finished off with watching a few PPG
videos. Ken then wrote his SPP exam in which he passed and was issued his
student pilot permit (SPP). Hopefully tomorrow morning Ken will get a
chance to fly a PPG!!
11 August 08 - Ken started PPG Trg - Ken
arrived today to start his PPG Training. He had just recently completed his
novice level for Free flight paragliding (No paramotor). The launch
technique is quite different for the two sports and a few hours of kiting was
required to show Ken the difference in these techniques. We covered plenty of
training today like motor training, Kiting. In flight, emergency procedures,
Paramotor launch technique. Tomorrow looks like rain, so I guess it will be a
quiet day!! Ken should be in the air by Wednesday!!

1 August 08 - One more qualified pilots -
Congratulations to Daniel Lirette for passing the Ultra Light Pilot Exam at the
Moncton Flight College.

31 July 08 - More flying this evening!! -
John and I took advantage of the smooth air this evening. Most of the time was
flying low around the training field.

31 July 08 - Demo Flight this morning
- After a tandem flight on the Excitor and a demo flight on the Mini PPC,
Henry is ready to start training this fall.

30 July 08 - Finally a calm evening!!
- About 1 1/2 hours before sunset the winds came down in which gave great flying
weather. It was a great evening for foot drags and low flying, I flew for about
an hour and I stayed within my flying field just playing around.

29 July 08 - Demo flights this morning -
I've been very busy lately completing renovations to my house. I had flown
a few short flights between jobs to include a demo flight of foot launch and
trike technique this morning for a potential student.

July 08 - PEI Pictures 2008 -
The updated pics of the 2008 PEI Fly-In are now linked above at the top of
the news page. Here's a Link
to the update pictures.
11 July 2008 - Bob & David flying new gear
- Bob flew his new WJ200 on trike and David on the Nomad and Pluto Glider this
morning. David had a grin from ear to ear and going to purchase new sneakers to
practice his foot drags.

9 July 2008 - Another Successful PEI Fly- In
- We would like to thank all the PPG Pilots who attended our smallest province
in Canada to fly. It has always been our favorite destination to relax,
unwind and enjoy the beautiful landscapes
and friendly Island hospitality.
A special thanks to Dan & Nat who provided us with
great food from their flying kitchen and Joe & Erica for stewing their home
land Hungarian goulash meal. Also, Sterling McRae for his flying site, New
Glasgow Lobster Supper Restaurant and tour. We can not forget our Florida
Para Flyers for driving 2904 kms / 1814 miles one way to create
memories to last a lifetime. And of course, the big guy aloft for giving
us great flying weather!!
It seemed to be a very successful Fly-In with plenty of
flying and we're already making plans for the next one in 2010.
Hope to see you all on the Island again. PPG Pilots

attempted to fly Dennis beach mid- day but it was fogged in. I hope everyone can
attend the PEI fly in. It should be a great time!!
