Oct 2009 - Fredericton Boys flew this morning - Bob, Glen
and Paul flew this morning from Weyman's Field just outside of Fredericton,
NB. Nice to see motivated pilot's flying in -4C weather.
Unfortunately for me, my training field was just recently completely flooded
from a huge rainstorm. I'm hoping it will dry up soon so that I can get
some airtime also.

Oct 2009 - We're Back - After 25 days away from home and a
month since I flew, the frost and cold temperature was not enough to keep
me
away from flying this morning. Actually the weather in Alberta was at times -8C with
lots of snow, so NB weather was all good. I took the Excitor out for a flight and knowing it was
forecasted to be -5C, I had to dress for the
occasion.
For new guy's in
this sport, winter flying is very good but if you want to fly more than 15
minutes you have to dress warm. I recommend a snow
suit, nice warm boots with some
sort of grip and Gerbing electric gloves. The first thing that will freeze
will be your hands due to they are usually above your shoulders in an upright
position, therefore they have less blood flow. I can tell you I've tried
everything out there to try to keep my hands warm. I tried Canadian Tire C cell
battery gloves, heat pack's, lobster hand gloves (Three finger's), they all
worked somewhat but without doubt
the best gloves are the Gerbing electric
gloves.
Here's the link http://gerbing.com/Products/gloves.html
They're not cheap but if you want to get in some serious winter flying they're a
must!!
If you do not have
a battery or charging system with your paramotor you can purchase a separate battery
pack that should last you around an
hour of flight. This morning's flight
temp was -5C. If you add the winds it was quite cold. During the whole flight my
hands were toasty warm. If it wasn't for the winds I could have flown off a
complete tank of fuel.
This morning's flight
was good except that winds aloft were at approx 60 km's at 600'. I was literally
parked for most of the flight in which lasted
45 minutes. The air was pretty smooth
but I could see that the fast air aloft was starting to make it down to the
surface. I enjoyed the flight even though I only flew a short distance. Few pics

Cross Country Flight - Ed, Tim, Mark and Jim flew from our place in
Sussex, NB to Hampton,NB and back on Friday morning. The weather was good
and the air was smooth. GPS showed 57.3 kms and they flew 1 hour and 44
minutes. Looking forward to be back home next week, haven't flown in three
weeks.

5 Oct 2009 -
Doaktown to Newcastle and return - Tim and Mark flew 186 km Saturday
from Doaktown to Newcastle,NB and back. Then fueled up with a 5 gallons
which Mark carried as the passenger. It took 3 hours and 45 minutes of air
time and the pictures are a reminder that
fall season is
here.

Sept 2009 - FLY Products Xenit Trike - PPGNB has just recently
purchased the new 2009 FLY Products XENIT Trike. This
unit is a DULV certified light weight and portable trike equipped with the
reliable Simonini Mini 2 Plus (G24) 28 HP engine. The Xenit has a 59" two
blade Helix carbon fiber propeller delivering over 200 lbs of thrust for single
or tandem flying. This trike pack's up very small and can be easily stored
in almost any vehicle for traveling.
The new Xenit Trike
will be used as a training unit to teach students on PPG Trike Courses.

Sept 2009 - Newfoundland arrival - Above + Beyond Canada
- Received an email this morning on behalf of the Above + Beyond team members we
wanted to share.
A
certain, impossible-to-describe, sense of joy saturates me as I share –
fashionably twelve days late – our arrival in St Johns,
Newfoundland!
On
September 5, Above + Beyond Canada gazed out over the Atlantic Ocean after
having flown over 9,000 km – on a shoestring budget, through ten
provinces – across the entire southern portion of Canada. We
greeted thirty-one schools/camps creating twenty-eight formations out of
children.
We are eager to post more videos, thoughts, and photos but at the moment
the lifetime that encapsulated us this summer needs time to unravel.
Currently, all members of our crew have parted ways and are home-bound.
Thanks to everyone who sprinkled a bit of heart into our stellar journey.
Whether you baked us cookies, filled our gas tanks, offered us beds and
showers, or opened your wing with us, we appreciated your energy and
support.
A
certain, impossible-to-describe, sense of joy saturates me as I share –
fashionably twelve days late – our arrival in St Johns,
Newfoundland!
Special
thanks to every camp/school we visited, Nirvana, Corepromo, Wayne Mitchler,
Alex Ferland, and PPG New Brunswick.
Remember that formation photography
can be purchased through our web-site (through a third-party company)
and all proceeds will go to one of our partner charities. Also,
keep checking our site, or your inbox, for our upcoming book and help us
send more kids to camp!
Happy soaring. And inspiring.
Cheers
for now - jess

winds this morning but we had to wait until 9:30 for the heavy fog to
lift.
Barb had three
more flight's to add to her log book!! Afterwards we reviewed the video of her
flight's and touched on a few point's to improve.
Good work Barb!!

Sept 2009 - The 24th Annual International Atlantic Balloon Fiesta was
hosted this weekend in Sussex, New Brunswick. We had
approximately a dozen Powered Paraglider pilots participating in the event flying
around with 30 Hot Air Balloons. You can find more
pictures
on the
Balloon Fiesta website at http://atlanticballoonfiesta.ca.
During my
briefing, Mark Dean did a demonstration on site and he had lots of fans taking
pictures. The fly-over demo was on time and all the spectators were very
impressed by both demonstrations, job well done guys. Thanks to Dan and
Nat, the evening meals were outstanding
and overall the
event was a great success!! Thanks to everyone that attended, I'm already
looking forward to next year!!

Sept 09 - Ben and Jess arrive back in Sussex - The Above +
Beyond crew arrived late last night and before they departed this morning we
changed the oil and long needed maintenance on the bus. Jim, Dan and Tim
were setting up for a morning flight in which they had great weather for a good
XC flight.

Sept 09 - Ben and Jess finally arrive in St Johns, NF - Congratulation
Ben on your long distance record breaking journey across Canada from coast to
coast. It took 113 days for Ben to fly a paramotor from Nelson, BC to St
Johns, NF to raise funds to help send kids to camp. On behalf of all the
PPG pilots, your achievement is outstanding and we all have a better
understanding of what you really overcome to make your dream happen. Ben
and Jess will be here at PPGNB on Wednesday to relax before the long journey
back home. 7
Sept 09 - Barb and Scott continues flying - Three more
flights for Barb and Scott attained seven flights this morning. We also
seen three Hot Air Balloons getting ready for the Atlantic Balloon Fiesta this
weekend in Sussex, NB. After the morning training was completed we then
watched each take off and landing video to confirm points to improve.

6
Sept 09 - More flights for Barb - This evening Barb
completed four more flights. Hopefully the weather will be good tomorrow
for Barb and Scott to continue their training.

5
Sept 09 - 1st Female PPG Student to Solo - This morning Barb
was my 1st female student to solo by herself and she is the first female pilot
in the Maritimes to fly a PPG. Barb had completed two flights and Scott
three flights before the morning training was finished.

2
Sept 09 - Barb continues glider training - This morning we worked
on finessing Barb's glider handling skill's. After a short time she was doing
very well with no input required from me to control the glider during inflation
and simulated take-off. After an additional hour of going back and forth in the
field Barb really was doing excellent at glider control. Barb is now ready to
fly!! Her first flight might be possibly Fri morning. Ed showed up at the field
also and flew around for a bit.

1
Sept 09 - PPG pilots flying - Low winds all day made a
prefect evening for flying. Summer is almost over and fall season is
approaching. This evening I watched Bruce a pilot from Apohaqui come in
for a perfect landing. Below are pictures from other pilots in the
Fredericton area.

1
Sept 09 - Busy Morning at PPGNB - Low winds provided Barb
and Scott lots of kitting practice in the training field this
morning. Then Scott was able to take his first flight before his
family arrived to go camping in PEI. Barb requires a little more kiting practice
before she can take her first flight.

31
Aug 09 - Barb
and Scott received their student pilot permit's - This
morning we were back in the training field but unfortunately due to earlier rain
and higher winds we could not finish our kiting practice. So, we covered
In-flight and emergency procedures, training videos as well as kiting practice
with my mock up glider trainer. Both Barb and Scott did very well and by the end
of the day they were ready to write their SPP exam. Tomorrow morning we'll
confirm our kiting skill's then possibly get a chance to fly!!
 28 Aug 09 - Barb
and Scott continue quad training - This afternoon Barb, Scott and
his kids were here at PPGNB to continue quad training. We covered glider control
as well as confirmed the weight & balance. We practiced a few
inflations with the tractor pulling the quad then I took their unit up for a
flight to ensure the glider was properly configured for flight. Just as I took
off I had noticed that there were two hot air balloons flying also!!

27 Aug 09 - Aunt
and nephew begin quad training - Two weeks ago, Barb and Scott took a
tandem flight and enjoyed the freedom of flight. They purchased equipment
together and the next step is to learn how to fly. Today they started
training and completed theory classes as well as some "hands on"
training on the PT quad. We had tuned up the unit and made some minor modifications
to advance the seat for Barb. They're both excited to continue training
before Tropical Storm Danny arrives this weekend.
25 Aug 09 - PPGNB 1st student purchases a
Greeneagle - Last weekend my 1st PPG student
Roger from Fredericton Junction, NB purchased the second only 35HP 4 stroke Greeneagle trike in
Canada. This is one PPG trike that just by looking at it show's the
workmanship
and detail of quality to include the 3000Hr Generac 4 stroke
engine. The strength of the frame and cage is incredible as both Roger and
I had
a turns doing chin ups on the prop cage. This unit is slightly higher
priced than regular trikes but in this case you definitely get what you pay for.
The operating cost for fuel is around $3 to $4 dollars an hour of flight. Compare that to your two stroke with
mixing oil and gas. If you fly regularly
this unit will pay back the increased cost of purchase in no time.
Congrats
Roger on your purchase!! You'll love this unit, I'm impressed every time when I
fly it!!
24 Aug 09 -
Nice calm evening - This evening
was very calm and inviting for PPG flying. I couldn't pass this weather up so I
decided I would
foot launch the SD II and play around the field practicing some
low flying techniques. Now this is Fun!!
