19 May 10 - Two more Weyman Pilots ready to join the Squadron! - This morning Dave and Ron finished their last qualifying flights confirming that they can safely fly without my direct supervision.  Both pilot's done very well and showed excellent flying skills not requiring any major communication by radio from me during their flights. These guy's are ready to fly the skies of the Fredericton area.

16 May 10 - Above + Beyond Canada book for sale - Bejamin Jordan and his team from Above + Beyond Canada inspired millions of Canadians last summer, setting the World Powered Paragliding Distance Record by flying 10,000 km across Canada to send kids to summer camps.   Flying across Canada, Bejamin photographed his journey and just completed his book full of pictures along the way.  Anyone wishing to purchase this book to send kids to summer camp can click on the link below.

On May 15th of 2009, Benjamin Jordan shattered a barrier separating his dreams from his reality as he launched a powered paraglider from a school yard in Canada's west-most surf-town, Tofino, BC. Obsessed with the mission to cross the entire country while motivating youth to follow their own dreams, he and his team delivered inspiring presentations during their stops at more than 35 schools and summer camps. The children displayed their gratitude by gathering into giant, breath-taking formations which Jordan then photographed from the sky before flying onward.

Bejamin Jordan set a new World Distance Record in Powered Paragliding flying  across Canada voyage departing Tofino, British Columbia on May 15, 2009 and reached his destination in St John's, Newfoundland on September 5, 2009,

Tim, Mark and Frank joined Benjamin Jordan on a short leg from Sussex to Moncton, NB on the 10th of August, 2009.  The second pictures below was taken by Benjamin when the guys flew cross country to Moncton, NB.

13 May 10 - Xcitor for sale - SOLD - The reason  for considering selling my Xcitor is due to I originally purchased it as a training vehicle for taking up student's. Unfortunately   I had found that even though this flies like a Cadillac and it's unbelievable to fly, it flies too fast to properly simulate a slower PPG.  Recently, I just purchased my Xenit trike and it is much closer to what actually a PPG student will experience during their first flights. Therefore, My Xcitor will be rarely used and it's too much of a great aircraft to sit in my garage. This unit deserves to fly!! Here's some info on this unit. The Fresh Breeze Xcitor is the world's best PPC/PPG on the planet.  It has a Hirth liquid cooled 70 HP engine that can easily fly two 220 lb pilot's in a very short distance, it has plenty of power to spare. This unit has 213 hrs and the 28M glider was just replaced last fall. The new glider only has 9 flights with around 4 hrs flight time. The older glider is still in excellent shape and is great to have as a spare. This unit comes with prop covers the tow lighting system and full enclosed cover for travelling.  This unit new is with these features cost $26,480.89 Euros today. With today's exchange rate this would cost over $34,000.00 CAD + shipping from Germany + tax. This unit is easily around $40,000.00 CAD New!!  You can have this one for $23,000.00 CAD +tax. There's only a handful of Xcitor's in North America and now you can be a proud owner of one!! I will train the buyer at no cost to fly the Xcitor so long as they are already a fully licensed PPG pilot. Below is further technical data

12 May 10 -  Two more Fredericton Pilot's fly their first flights!! -  Ron & Dave showed up early this morning to get in their first flight. We started with each student getting a Tandem flight.  During the Tandem flight each student had a chance to control the glider while flying and also gave them a chance to see what's it like from the air. Once both Tandem flights were completed it was their turn!!  Dave flew first and had a very clean inflation and before he knew it he was flying.  Ron also had a very nice flight with a very good take-off & landing.  We set up Dave for his second flight and in no time he was back in the air!! WOW!, WOW!, WOW!, Dave kept repeating after landing.

The winds started to pick up so we cancelled any further flights until possibly this evening. Later on we went over the flight videos while having Johanne's great coffee and Muffins!! It was a very good morning of flying!! Good work guy's.

11 May 10 -  New Students receive their Student Pilot Permits   -   This evening  the winds were fairly low for Dave and Ron to practice their skills kiting their glider. They did very well and on completion I had a chance to fly their equipment for a test flight.  I was hoping the flying conditions were good enough to fly Tandem flights with the students, but the air was quite rough. However,   Dave and Ron wrote their SPP exam and passed. They both received their Student Pilot Permits and are now legal and ready to fly!! Hopefully tomorrow morning will bring good conditions for their first flight!!

10 May 10 -  South Africa   -  Kobus is back home and had forwarded us two photos of his home town in South Africa.  He was flying at an altitude of 1185m ASL.   Looks like a great place to fly!!

10 May 10 -  Day 2   -  This morning the winds were too high to kite so we started by getting back out in the field to perfect the launching drill and get more comfortable with their quad. The winds came down for a short time to pull out their glider and learn about the correct layout and connecting the glider to the Quad.  We had a very short window with the wind and Dave did get a chance to practise one inflation in which he did very well. Unfortunately right after the winds picked up again and we had to delay the Kiting practice. In the afternoon we went over In flight drills covering normal flight and emergency procedures. The training today went very well despite Mother Nature not co-operating with the winds.  Good work Dave and Ron!! Tomorrows another day!!

8 May 10 -  2010 Training Season Begins   -  Dave and Ron from the Fredericton area started training today.  We covered the theory lessons, pre-flight, starting procedures as well as hands on taxiing their Quad around the field. Later on we finished up today's training with the Paraglider launch technique using my simulator. Both Students had done very well. The next training day is Monday!!

5 May 10 -  SD Trike Flight!!  -  The weather has been wet and windy the last 2 days, however Mother Nature opened up a small window this evening for a short flight.  I flew the SD Trike to verify the set up and weight & balance point.   I will be using the SD Trike for training this year for students who want to learn trike but who do not want to commit to purchasing equipment. This trike is very light and versatile and fit's most paramotors.  The SD Trike makes flying as easy as it gets!!

4 May 10 -  Important notice for Pilot's regarding your paper Aviation Licence - Current aviation license holders should have received in the mail a notice to apply for the new Aviation Document Booklet. All paper licenses are due to expire this year and you must apply soonest for the new Aviation Booklet. This booklet look's similar to a Passport. It does not cost anything other than you require a passport photo attached with the new application.

Here's the link to the application - http://www.tc.gc.ca/civilaviation/general/personnel/apps.htm - The application form is under Application for Aviation Document Booklet

Note - This does not apply to SPP's (Student Pilot Permits)

2 May 10 -  "A" Assist on Green Eagle! - This morning I installed and adjusted the "A" assist on the Green Eagle. The "A" assist pulls the "A" riser during inflation making it easier for a pilot to launch.

1 May 10 -  Green Eagle Flight!! - After cutting the grass this evening it was time to fly. I haven't had a chance to fly the Green Eagle since I'm back from Florida so it was her turn to go up. The winds were fairly low but picked up after about 30 minutes. Had Fun and it's always nice to fly the Green Eagle. This 4 stroke thumper is in my view,  easily the top of the line 4 stroke PPG trike on the market.  With the 38 HP Generac four-stroke engine you can't go wrong, the power is incredible and the fuel mileage is Excellent!! Folk's, if you want the same turn key reliability as your vehicle in a PPG, the Green Eagle is for you!!  You can't beat this trike at the price of $8700.00 US. For more info on this trike here's my link  Green Eagle Four Stroke Trike

Also the Weyman pilots from Fredericton, NB were out flying this evening. Nice to see gliders in the air!!.

26 Apr 10 -   My kind of "Fly Fishing" - This morning the weather was great for flying but a little cold. I few the Xenit trike with my rev 24 for a  45 minutes Cross Country (XC) flight to Norton, then to the Belle Isle area to return to Sussex. On the way back I had a decent tail wind averaging speed of 80+ kms. When I returned home there were a few fishermen fishing the Kennebacasis River. I think I'm going to throw in a line myself!!   Again, this is my king of "Fly Fishing".

24 Apr 10 - Few flight's today - This morning the winds were light but it was cold so I held off my flight for later on in the morning. The Cumulus clouds were starting to form and it was a little bumpy but it was warm. After putting in a full day working in my yard the winds were looking good for an evening flight. I took the Xcitor for a flight around Sussex and the Apohaqui area looking for possibly two other pilot's that might stop by Sussex area. Unfortunately they never showed up but I had a nice flight anyway. On landing there was an onlooker that had watched my landing.  He is from Cape Breton and working in the area and wanted to find out more about our great sport.  He was quite interested in the Xcitor and I explained that I have other aircraft that I put on my back. He laughed and said,"He would like to see that".  We'll they're was enough daylight left for a quick foot launch demo flight . I had done a demo flight for him and gave him a card. He seems quite interested!! Hopefully we'll see him again in the future!!  Decent day of flying after all!!

21 Apr 10 - Weather's improving - This morning the winds were from the SW which is normally the predominate winds for the Sussex area. A look at the forecast show's improving weather for flying and look's good for the 2010 Training Season starting in 2 week's.  I was expecting rain this morning but the rain held off long enough to get in another nice flight.  I'm looking forward to the 2010 Training Season and due to the many calls of interest it look's like it should be a good one.   If you want to fly early, book your course dates now,  first come, first serve.

20 Apr 10 - Quick evening flight - This evening the winds were from the North and usually this means, "Stay on the Ground". However, the winds were pretty light so I decided to take a chance. The air was pretty good and I stayed around the field dragging my feet then later I went for a small XC to Apohaqui. Nice Flight!!

13 Apr 10 -  Spring refresher training - For those pilot's that haven't flown all winter or has not flown often refresher training is a good idea.  Unfortunately for those that don't fly often they usually either had forgotten the basics or have developed bad habit's. In a short amount of time after reviewing the basics of launching and watching your launches I can get you back to a more confident level of flying quickly. Normally this can be completed in one training session.  If interested, give me a call or forward an email.

11 Apr 10 - Out of the Office - Johanne and I will be out of the office from the 13 Apr - 18 Apr 10.  If you require to contact us you can call our cell (506) 434-5601 or forward an email to : frank@poweredparaglidingnewbrunswick.com.
