16 Aug 10 - Basic Fix Wing Course
- We are back home and I just finished my Basic Fixed Wing Ultralight Course with Bernie
from East Coast Ultralight in Bridgetown, Nova Scotia, it was a blast!! Always
wanted to learn how to fly a fixed wing aircraft and this week I made it happen. Due
to my RC and Paragliding experiences it was an advantage but there was lots to
learn. After my first solo flight Bernie surprised me with the traditional of hosing
the new pilot.
During
my spare time I'll be flying my own Challenger Aircraft from Havelock Airfield working
towards my passenger rating so I can take Johanne with me when I fly!! Even though this is
not a PPG it's still aviation and the experience can only help with my overall flying
experience. Even though I will enjoy flying my Challenger I'll also be looking
forward to the "low and slow" PPG flights we all love!!
8 Aug 10 - Out of the Office - We are
currently out of the office for an undetermined amount of time. We'll let you know when we
return. However, you can reach us by internet at frank@poweredparaglidingnewbrunswick.com
or by cell @ 506-434-5601 or 5602. Take care and Fly Safe!!

Aug 10 - Life on the Lakes - At 07:30 hours on Saturday, four PPG
pilots from Fredericton, NB (one foot-launch, four trikes) had launched from
Guenther place. The attending pilots were Bob, David, Glen, Paul and
Guenther who is from Jemseg, NB . The pilots had done a fine demonstration for the
spectators for the "Life on the Lakes" event at the Village of Cambridge Narrows
field.
7 Aug 10 - Havelock Air Field Open House -
The Miniplane paramotor join the ranks with the other aircrafts Saturday morning at the
Havelock Air Field Open House . We were waiting for the new addition to the feet to
arrive with new colours.
1 Aug 10 - Waterside Beach - Since the winds
were forecasted from the south, I knew that it would be a great opportunity to bring Bobby
to Waterside Beach just outside Alma, NB to fly. We showed up at the beach at around
0900 hrs and in no time Bobby was enjoying the nice smooth air from beach flying.
Since we were going to the beach, Bobby has brought his wife Angie and their child
Hailey to enjoy the weather. The winds very low so Bobby took off doing forward
launches and he had flown a total of 16 Flights. Bobby had progressed to the point where
he required no assistance from me to safely hook up, launch and land his paramotor
successfully. On his 16th flight, I had taken Bobby for his 1st Cross Country
along the coastline. Great work Bobby!!
31 July 10 - Bobby 1st Solo Flight - The
winds were low this morning with morning fog. I waited for the winds to pick up due
to the weight of the Walkerjet F200. A little wind would help the inflation and make
the run considerably less distance. Finally the winds did pick up enough for a
decent flight. Bobby did get in one successful flight but not long after the winds
had picked up making flying quite rough. We packed up and went over his flight by
looking at the video. Hopefully the weather will be favorable this evening for
Bobby to continue flying.
30 July 10 - Tandem Flight for Bobby This Evening
- Yesterday evening Bobby received his Student Pilot Permit after he wrote his SPP
exam. This evening I took him for a Tandem Flight. Hopefully Mother Nature
will give favorable winds for Bobby tomorrow morning so he can achieve his first solo
flight.

July 10 - Johnny Flew This Morning - John was here early this
morning and had two flights on the Greeneagle. Unfortunately during his second landing his
landing was a little hard and tapped his prop. We'll wait for a new prop to come in before
he can continue his training.
30 July 10 - Life on the Lakes - Update -

July 10 - Bobby Continues Training - This afternoon after
slinging 1500 bales of hay on his farm, Bobby came over and had completed his
In-flight and emergency procedures. I didn't have the heart to put the WJ back on his
back!! Tomorrow he'll be writing his Student Pilot permit exam.
27 July 10 - Bobby Starts Foot Launch Training - This
morning Bobby for Cornhill, NB arrived ready to learn. As usual we covered theory
classes and then it was out in the field to practice forward and reverse launches . After
lunch more ground handling perfecting the glider technique. We also had a chance to
conduct some paramotor training. Tonight Bobby has some homework studying the CARS
(Canadian Aviation Regulations).
This evening Johnny continued with is Trike Training. We reviewed in flight
and emergency procedures. He then wrote his SPP and was successful. I then had a chance to
be a passenger while John pulled up and controlled the glider during take-off and during
flight. I also had Johanne video a few take-offs with me flying the Greeneagle. John will
be soloing soon!!

24 July 10 - Johnny Continues Training - We
had a full day of training which started with a Tandem Flight. In the air John had a
chance to control the glider to include a couple of touch & go's. 45 minutes later
John was controlling the glider very well making very smooth and controlled turns. After,
we practiced take off simulations with the Greeneagle by towing with my tractor. Once John
became familiar with that we connected up the glider to the Xenit trike. We practiced full
inflations where John sat in the rear seat (main pilot) where he had the opportunity to
pull up the glider and to control it during inflations and during roll out. We spent
a good part of the day practising glider control where John was catching on very
well. Later on, John had strapped into the Greeneagle and practiced simulated
inflations by running back in forth of my training field getting used to the throttle
control of the Greeneagle.
22 July 10 - Challenger Aircraft - We
just recently purchased a 2007 Challenger II. Jo and I had travelled to Edenvale,
Ontario just outside Barrie to get a good look at the aircraft. We took a quick
flight then finalized the deal. The following day the aircraft was loaded on a trailer
back to NB next week. I'll be taking my fixed wing training sometime in August whenever I
finish my PPG student training. I always wanted to expand my flying knowledge and
this aircraft will do just that.
Just
to make it clear, fixed wing aircraft will not effect PPGNB nor my devotion of teaching
and flying Powered Paragliders. My priority will always be teaching PPG and making
the dream of flight for new PPG pilots. The challenger was purchased solely to allow
me to fly when the winds are too high for a paramotor and to expand my flight knowledge.
12 July 10 - Life on the Lakes - Gunther and
Hertha from Jemseg, NB would like to invite local pilots to the " Life at the
Lakes" event in Cambridge Narrows, NB the weekend of 7 - 8 August 2010. You can
check the website at http://www.w-rcc.ca/lifeatthelakes.html . Gunther has an area were pilots can fly from and if
you wish to attend, please contact Gunther and Hertha at 506-488-2251 or email
them at info@loghomegreen.com

July 10 - Greeneagle Training - Johnny is now a proud owner of a
Greeneagle Trike. Today we covered theory classes, as well as familiarization with the GE.
5 July 10 - New Low Boy - Dave's new Low Boy
II Quad came in today. Dave is a past student of mine from several weeks past. I
spent a good part of the day assembling the unit getting it ready for Dave when he
arrives. Dave arrived later on in the day and most of the assembly was completed. We set
him up in the In-flight trainer to set up his weight & balance. We ran in the engine a
bit and now Dave is ready to get back in the air!! Have fun Dave!!
3 July 10 - Matt Flys!! - Matt had completed
four flights this morning. He did very well but the weather window was very short. Good
work Matt!!
2
July 10 - Matt starts his training!! - Matt showed up early this
morning and we started his training. In the morning we covered Kiting then following lunch
we started Paramotor training. After supper we completed In-flight drills as well as
Practice inflation's with the glider and paramotor combined. I then completed a demo foot
launch followed by a Tandem flight where Matt had a chance to control a glider in the air.
Matt then completed his SPP test and was issued his SPP. We finished by looking at videos
and confirming all the drill required for a successful flight. Hopefully tomorrow morning
will bring good weather for Matt to fly!! Long day but Great work Matt!!
Later on after the Tandem flight with Matt, Scott's wife Susan had a Tandem
flight to see what the hype was all about with PPG flying. Now she realizes why her
husband likes to fly so much!!
1 July 10 - Happy Birthday Canada!!! - This
morning before Eric arrive we had a visitor!! They landed and not long after they
took off again to enjoy the morning air. Eric had showed up with his wife Carole this
morning. We quickly set up and in no time Eric was back in the air. Eric had performed
very well with no problems in his taking offs or landings. Eric will now continue his
flying back home in the Fredericton area. Great work Eric!!
